Landlords who own property in certain parts of Rotherham are to be the subject of a new licensing scheme in an effort to drive up the standards of rented accommodation.
A Rotherham landlord has been fined over £13,000 for failing to maintain a house containing several flats.

This house in Telford was left in a disgusting state with hundreds of empty glass bottles, food packaging and food waste. The pile is thought to have been building up for the entirety of the tenancy meaning there was several years worth of rubbish in the property.

Important Tax Information for Landlords
Landlords are being warned to ensure that their tax affairs are in order as HMRC is ramping up its ongoing campaign to catch investors believed to be avoiding paying what is due on their rental properties.
The latest figures available (for 2013-14) state that HMRC inspectors collected more than £130m as a result of investigations into capital gains tax underpayments alone.
